Software for Calculation of Chain Gears
Our new software ZM1 calculates dimensions and strength of chain gears according to Niemann/Winter and in accordance with DIN 8187/88. Roller chains can be selected from the data base provided.
ZM1 - Dimensioning
ZM1 searches the data base and suggests an appropriate chain based on ratio relationship, power and drive speed. ZM1 determines the next even number of links for the chain and calculates the exact dimensions based on the approximate center distance.
ZM1 - Re-Calculation
The required chain is selected from the data base. ZM1 calculates the dimensions for chain and chain wheels from the number of teeth of the pinion and gear wheel, and also the approximate center distance.
ZM1 - Strength Calculation
ZM1 calculates the static and dynamic breakage safety margin as well as the safety against permissible surface pressure. ZM1 determines the standard value of the joint surface pressure for roller chains in accordance with DIN 8187/88. The life expectancy (Lv) of the chain is calculated (according to Niemann) from the joint surface pressure.
Roller Chains in accordance with DIN 8187/88
ZM1 calculates single, double or triple roller chains. The data base supplied with the program contains the necessary dimensions and strength values for all sizes in accordance with DIN 8187 (European construction) and DIN 8188 (American construction).
ZM1 - Degree of Efficiency
Loss of power and degree of efficiency are calculated from the joint friction co-efficient and geometry data.
ZM1 - Lubrication
ZM1 determines the recommended type of lubrication from the diagrams for selecting type of lubrication (according to Niemann). The operation point of the calculated gear is shown in the diagram.
ZM1 - Printout of Results
The calculation results and input data can be printed out on any Windows printer. Alternatively, ZM1 can generate an HTML or TXT file for editing with an Internet Browser or spreadsheet program.
ZM1 - Drawings
Drawings of the pinion and chain gear can be displayed on screen, printed out or exported as scale drawings to CAD via DXF or IGES interfaces.
ZM1 - Manufacturing Drawings
ZM1 generates a complete manufacturing drawing of the pinion and chain gear, with drawings and tables for the chain gear. The drawing includes a header with an index of alterations taken from the program.
GEO2 is a new software for calculation of mass moment of inertia, volume and mass of any geometriacal profile.
The cross-section coordinates may be entered es line or arc elements, or the geometry can be imported from DXF file (Polyline).
ZAR1+ Englisch Units
At "Edit-Dimensions-Standard" you may now enter "normal diametral pitch Pn" instead of "normal module mn".
Pn = 1/mn*25.4
The Standard printout can be configured to output in English units instead of Metric Units (File-Settings-Printout).

For manufacturing with protuberance tools with finishing by grinding, the roughness of the grinded flank is essential for calculation of pitting (Factor ZR). For calculation of safety against tooth root stress, the roughness of the tooth root must be used (Factor YRrelt). At the newest version of ZAR1+, you may enter different values Rz for flank and tooth root.
ZAR1+ Double-Helical and Herringbone Gears
For double helical gears the tooth width b is entered as total width of both parts. The face contact ratio epsilon beta was calculated with the total width b. This has been changed now, for double helical and herringbone gears, Zar1+ uses the half value b/2. ZAR1+ Light Pitting
The diagram for life expectation factor ZNT at DIN 3990 and Niemann shows a second curve with index "light pitting allowed". The newest version of ZAR1+ now outputs two values for life expectation until pitting (if SH<1): "time until pitting" and "time until extreme pitting"

WST1 - International Materials
Our material database WST1 has been extended with a conversion tables for material names according to EN standard, NBN (Belgium), AFNOR (France), B.S. (Great Britain), UNI (Italy), JIS (Japan), SS (Sweden), GOST (Russia), UNE (Spain) und AISI/SAE/ASTM (U.S.A.). The database can now be searched for international material names.
Drawing name 2 lines
The drawing head of production drawings may now include a second drawing name or description. The 2nd drawing name may be until 30 characters long. The max.length of the drawing name is now 18 chars at each programm, the drawing name up to 25 chars.
HighRes Database Window
When dragging the database dialogue window, the database table is enlarged now. More colums are displayed on screen then.
